  • All seam allowances are 1/4" unless noted.
  • Fat 1/8 = approximately 9" x 22"

Piecing the Blocks:

  1. Take a pair of the same print 3 1/2" x 6 1/2" Rectangles and sew a contrasting 1 1/2" x 6 1/2" Rectangle to the middle. Repeat 3 more times to form the Gift Package blocks.
  2. Sew a white-on-white 2 1/2" x 4 1/4" Triangle to a pair of the same print 2 1/2" Half-Square Triangles to form a Flying Geese unit. Repeat 3 more times to form the bows on top of the Packages.

Assembling the Quilt:

  1. Using the quilt image as a guide, lay out the Gift Package Blocks, Bows and cornerstones. Be sure to match up the same color middle ribbon and bow on each gift package. Also note, there are more green cornerstones than red, so they can be placed in each of the four corners and in the middle.
  2. Alternate sewing three 2 1/2" print Squares and two 2 1/2" x 7 1/2" white-on-white Rectangles to form the sashing row. Make three rows.
  3. Alternate sewing three 2 1/2" x 2" white-on-white Rectangles and two Flying Geese units to form a bow row. Make two rows.
  4. Alternate sewing three 8 1/2" x 2 1/2" white-on-white Rectangles and two Gift Package blocks to form a gift package row. Make two rows.
  5. Sew the horizontal rows together to form the finished quilt top.
  6. Measure from the top to the bottom of quilt top. This is the side length of the borders. Cut the 2 1/2" white-on-white border Strips to this length and sew in place.
  7. Measure from the outside edges of the quilt top. This is the top and bottom length of the borders. Cut the 2 1/2" white-on-white border Strips to this length and sew in place.
  8. Repeat steps 5 and 6 to sew the 3 1/2" outer borders in place.

Finishing:

  1. Layer the backing, batting and quilt top. Quilt by hand or machine, as desired.
  2. Sew binding strips together to form one long strip. Fold wrong sides together, lengthwise, and press.
  3. With a 1/4" seam, sew the raw edges of the binding to the edges of the right side of the quilt. Turn the folded edge of the binding to the back side of the quilt and stitch in place by hand, mitering the corners.
