- The quilt directions will be done in sections to complete and finish the quilt.
- Finished Size: 48 1/2" x 60 1/2"
- All seam allowances are 1/4" unless noted.
- WOF = width of fabric
Center Star - 18 1/2" Unfinished:

- Assemble the 2 blue, 1 gold and 1 background as shown. Press seams open. Repeat to make 4. See Diagram 1.
- Sew the star points created in step 1 together, as shown with the squares to create the star. See Diagram 2.
- Cut the 2" strip into 2 2" x 18 1/2" pieces. Sew to the top and bottom of the star. See Diagram 3.
Friendship Star - 6 1/2" Unfinished:

- Sew the red half-square triangles to the background half-square triangles. There will be 16 red half-square triangle squares.
- Sew the blue half-square triangles to the background half-square triangles. There will be 24 blue half-square triangle squares.
- Sew 4 blue star points with 1 blue square and 4 background squares to make a friendship star. Repeat to make a total of 6 stars. Put 4 of these stars aside to use as the center of the outside corner stars.
- Sew 4 red star points with 1 red square and 4 background squares to make a friendship star. Repeat to make a total of 4 stars. See Diagram 4.
- Use the photo of the quilt to arrange 3 friendships stars in a row for the top of the center star. Add to the top of the center star.
- Use the photo of the quilt to arrange 3 friendships stars in a row for the bottom of the center star. Add to the bottom of the center star.

- Cut the 2" strip into two 2" x 18 1/2" pieces. Sew to the top and bottom of the quilt center.
- Cut each of the 1 1/2" wide strips into 1 1/2" x 36 1/2".
- Sew 1 red, white and blue together lengthwise. Press seams to one side. Repeat.
- Sew 1 pieced strip to each side of the quilt center. The red strip will be toward the center star.

- Sew 1 gold triangle to 2 sides of a 3" x 6" background triangle. Repeat 15 times.
- Use the diagram below to sew 4 of the rectangles made in step 1 with 4 background squares, and a friendship star to make a corner star. Repeat 3 more times. See Diagram 5.

- Using the quilt photo as a guide, first sew 3 stars to each side of the center.
- Again using the photo as a guide, sew the stars to the top and bottom of the quilt starting and ending each row with a gold corner star.

- Sew the two 1 1/2 yd pieces together along the selvedge edge to make the backing.
- Layer the backing, batting, and quilt top. Quilt by hand or machine, as desired.
- Sew the 2" blue binding strips together to form one long strip. Fold the binding in half, lengthwise, with wrong sides together and press.
- Sew the raw edges of the binding to the edges of the right side of the quilt. Turn the folded edge of the binding to the back side of the quilt and stitch in place by hand, mitering the corners.
