Squares to Argyle Quilt

Project #14252

There's a multitude of variations to this lovely design, including adding sashing to surround the diamonds and clustering the shapes in quadrants or rows or whatever you can dream up!

  • Finished Size: 34 1/2" x 34 1/2"
  • All seam allowances are 1/4" unless noted.

Piecing the Quilt:

  1. Lay out the 4 1/2" Squares on point, alternating colors beginning with the gray print and then the blue print.
  2. Sew end to end in diagonal rows. Offset the rows when sewing together. See Diagram 1.
  3. Using a long ruler, square up the edges of the quilt top.

  1. Layer the backing, batting and quilt top. Quilt by hand or machine following the diagonal rows to create a stitched Argyle pattern.
  2. Sew binding strips together to form one long strip. Fold wrong sides together, lengthwise, and press.
  3. With a 1/4" seam, sew the raw edges of the binding to the edges of the right side of the quilt. Turn the folded edge of the binding to the back side of the quilt and stitch in place by hand, mitering the corners.
