Notes:

  • Finished Size: 28" x 31 1/4"
  • All seam allowances are 1/4" unless noted.
  • Fat 1/8 = approximately 9" x 22"
  • Fat 1/4 = approximately 18" x 21"
  • * = Adhere fusible adhesive to back of fabric before die-cutting the shapes.
  • WOF = width of fabric

Piecing the Quilt:

  1. Sew a pair of white frost and wood grain Half-Square Triangles, right sides together, along the diagonal seam to form a square. Press towards the darker color. Repeat until all Half-Square Triangles are sewn together to form squares.
  2. Sew a Half-Square Triangle unit to each side of a wood grain Rectangle. Repeat with two more wood grain Rectangles. Press towards the darker color.
  3. Sew a Half-Square Triangle unit to one side of a Rectangle. Repeat with one more wood grain Rectangle. Press towards the darker color.
  4. Using the quilt image as a guide, sew the units together to form the fence top row. Square off the width to 31 1/2". Press.
  5. Sew the fence top row to the 31 1/2" x 15" white frost fabric, placing the white frost fabric Triangles towards the top of the background.
  6. Sew the 31 1/2" x 11 1/2" wood grain fabric to the bottom side of the fence top row. This makes the background for the Reindeer.
  7. Place Reindeer Heads including antlers, noses, ears and eyes on the background, layering as desired.
  8. When satisfied with the placement, heat fuse in place with an iron.
  9. Round off one end of each of the six 1" x 2 1/2" Rectangles to create Reindeer legs. Arrange in a pleasing manner. Heat fuse in place with an iron. Cut a notch in each of the six gray Circles to create hooves. Arrange one at the end of each Reindeer leg and heat fuse in place with an iron.
  10. With a washable fabric pencil or marker, draw a line to form a light cord. Stitch pearl cotton in place using a zig-zag stitch. Arrange the Circles along the light cord in a pleasing manner. Heat fuse in place with an iron.
  11. Stitch around shapes as desired.

Finishing:

  1. Layer the backing, batting and quilt top. Quilt by hand or machine, as desired.
  2. Sew binding strips together to form one long strip. Fold wrong sides together lengthwise and press.
  3. With a 1/4" seam, sew the raw edges of the binding to the edges of the right side of the quilt. Turn the folded edge of the binding to the back side of the quilt and stitch in place by hand, mitering the corners.
