Pink & Turquoise Four-Patch Quilt

Watch your quilt come alive with contrasting colors. The 4-patch block may be a basic block, but it lends itself to many easy-to-assemble possibilities!



Fabric Requirements:

Cut (60) 2 1/2" Squares for folded triangles
1 7/8 ydMulti floral printCut (28) 4 1/2" Squares
Cut (4) 4 1/2" wide Strips x WOF for border
Cut (4) 2 1/2" wide Strips x WOF for binding
1 1/8 ydBacking fabric
40" x 42"Batting

Notes:

  • Finished Size: 36" x 40"
  • All seam allowances are 1/4" unless noted.
  • WOF = width of fabric

Piecing the Quilt:

  1. Sew 56 turquoise Squares to 56 pink Squares to make 56 units.
  2. Sew units together to make a four-patch square.
  3. As seen in photo, alternate four-patch squares and 4 1/2" Squares.
  4. Sew blocks together, seven across by eight down.
  5. To make the folded triangles, fold one 2 1/2" Square diagonally in half. Press. Fold again diagonally in half.
  6. Pin 16 folded triangles in place along the both long edges of quilt, overlapping triangle corners 1/4".
  7. Baste in place.
  8. Pin 14 folded triangles in place along both shorter edges of quilt overlapping triangle corners 1/4".
  9. Baste in place.
  10. Stitch 4 1/2" border Strip along both long edges of quilt.
  11. Trim off excess.
  12. Stitch a 4 1/2" border Strip along both short edges of quilt.
  13. Press the folded triangles border.

Finishing:

  1. Layer the backing, batting and quilt top. Quilt by hand or machine, as desired.
  2. Sew binding strips together to form one long strip. Fold wrong sides together lengthwise and press.
  3. With a 1/4" seam, sew the raw edges of the binding to the edges of the right side of the quilt. Turn the folded edge of the binding to the back side of the quilt and stitch in place by hand, mitering the corners.
