Piecing the Project:

  1. Place an Anchor on a 6 1/2" white Square. Heat fuse in place with an iron. Stitch around shape as desired. Repeat with all Anchors and Rings.
  2. Heat fuse four wedges to each Ring to form a life preserver.
  3. Alternate sewing three 2" x 6 1/2" red Strips and two 2" white with red dots Squares to form a sashing row. Make two sashing and cornerstone rows.
  4. See the quilt photo for block placement. Alternate sewing three 6 1/2" blocks with two 2" x 6 1/2" Strips. Make three rows.
  5. Sew horizontal rows together, starting at the top with a block and sashing row and alternating with a sashing and cornerstone row to form the finished quilt top.
  6. Sew a 2" x 21" Strip to the sides of the quilt top.
  7. Sew a 2" x 24" Strip to top and bottom of the quilt top.

Finishing:

  1. Layer the backing, batting and quilt top. Quilt by hand or machine, as desired.
  2. Sew the binding Strips together to form one long Strip. Fold the binding in half lengthwise, with wrong sides together, and press.
  3. With a 1/4" seam, sew the raw edges of the binding to the edges of the right side of the quilt. Turn the folded edge of the binding to the back side of the quilt and stitch in place by hand, mitering the corners.
