Egyptian Rhombus Quilt

Project #17869

Forget those pesky 'y' seams. You can easily make this tumbler quilt without them. Just as nice, the Sizzix Bigz XL Rhombus w/Triangle Die includes the triangle and diamond for easy piecing.

Piecing the Quilt Top:

  1. Using the quilt photo as a guide, lay out the entire quilt on a design wall or the floor. This will make it easier to keep track of piecing.
  2. Sew the Rhombuses and Triangles together into vertical rows (Diagram 1).
  3. Press the seams open to keep the bulk down at the points.
  4. Sew the rows together until you have completed the top. Press the seams open.

  1. Layer the backing, batting and quilt top. Quilt by hand or machine as desired.
  2. Trim the quilt, squaring up the extra Triangle pieces.
  3. Sew the binding Strips together to form one long Strip. Fold wrong sides together lengthwise, and press.
  4. With a 1/4" seam, sew the raw edges of the binding to the edges of the right side of the quilt. Turn the folded edge of the binding to the back side of the quilt, and stitch in place by hand, mitering the corners.
