Notes:

  • Finished Size: 18" x 44"
  • All seam allowances are 1/4" unless noted.
  • Fat 1/4 = approximately 18" x 22"
  • WOF = width of fabric

Piecing the Project:

  1. Sew one ivory/taupe stripe 2 1/2" H x 4 1/2" W Triangle to one ivory/red floral 2 1/2" H x 4 1/2" W Triangle. Sew one ivory/red floral 2 1/2" H x 4 1/2" W Triangle to one taupe/red floral 2 1/2" H x 4 1/2" W Triangle. Sew both halves together to make a quarter-square triangle unit. Make four.
  2. Arrange the 4 1/2" Squares and the quarter-square triangle units created in step 1 in rows. Sew across in rows first. Then sew the rows together.
  3. Sew one ivory/red floral 3 1/2" Half-Square Triangle to one red/gold floral 3 1/2" Half-Square Triangle. Make four.
  4. Sew one 3 1/2" Half-Square Triangle unit to one ivory/red floral 3 1/2" Square. Make two.
  5. Sew one taupe/red floral 6 1/2" Half-Square Triangle to one ivory dot 6 1/2" Half-Square Triangle. Make two.
  6. Sew the 6 1/2" Half-Square Triangle units together.
  7. Sew one taupe/red floral 2 1/2" H x 4 1/2" W Triangle to one ivory/gold floral 2 1/2" H x 4 1/2" W Triangle. Make four.
  8. Sew one red/gold 4 1/2" Half-Square Triangle to one taupe/red/ivory/gold Triangle unit. Make four.
  9. Arrange the 4 1/2" Triangle units and 4 1/2" Squares into rows. Sew across in rows first. Then sew rows together.
  10. Sew the 1 1/2" x 12 1/2" Strips between the two blocks as shown in the main photo.
  11. Measure from the top to the bottom of the runner top. Use this measurement to cut the 3 1/2" wide Strips to form side borders. Sew the side borders in place. Press.
  12. Measure from the left side to the right side of the runner top. Use this measurement to cut the 3 1/2" wide Strips to form top and bottom borders. Sew the top and bottom borders onto the quilt. Press.

Finishing:

  1. Layer the backing, batting and quilt top. Quilt by hand or machine as desired.
  2. Sew the binding Strips together to form one long Strip. Fold wrong sides together lengthwise, and press.
  3. With a 1/4" seam, sew the raw edges of the binding to the edges of the right side of the quilt. Turn the folded edge of the binding to the back side of the quilt, and stitch in place by hand, mitering the corners.
