Fabric Requirements:

Yardage FabricInstructions
Fat 1/4For pants, capris, bloomersCut (4) pant leg pieces x desired length
Fat 1/8For shortsCut (4) pant leg pieces x desired length

  • All seam allowances are 1/4" unless noted.
  • Always lock in stitches at the beginning and the end to prevent unraveling.
  • Fat 1/8 = approximately 9" x 22"
  • Fat 1/4 = approximately 18" x 22"
  • * = Elastic length may vary based on doll waist measurement; always start longer, and trim once inserted.

Assembling Pants (Shorts & Capris):

  1. Sew each pocket by placing two pieces right sides together. Sew from one corner, around the curve to the other corner, leaving the top open for turning (Fig. 1).
  2. Notch the curved edge, and turn right side out (Fig. 1).
  3. Fold the top edge inward, and sew a topstitch to close (Fig. 1).
  4. Place the pocket onto the pants (centered vertically and at least 1" down from the top edge), and topstitch around the edge to stitch in place (Fig. 2). Repeat on the other side. (Tip: To easily line up the second pockets, place the second pocket on top of the first, lay the pant panel right side down and line up accordingly. Pin the pocket to the pant panel, remove and sew in place.)
  5. Place two pant pieces right sides together, and sew the rise (inward curve) (Fig. 3). Repeat for the other two pieces.
  6. Place the front pant pieces and the back pant pieces right sides together. Sew both outer side seams (Fig. 4). (Tip: For beginners, double roll to hem the legs. There will be one seam allowance edge on the inside.)
  7. Sew the rise, lining up the corners and the center crotch seam (Fig. 4).
  8. Double roll (approx 3/8") the hems (seams pressed open) on each pant leg, and topstitch (Fig. 5).
  9. Double roll (approx 3/8") the hem on the waist, and topstitch the lower folded edge, leaving at least a 1" opening in the back for elastic (Fig. 5).
  10. Thread elastic through the opening using an elastic threader or bodkin.
  11. Overlap and sew the two ends of the elastic together. (Tip: Keep the elastic longer than needed to make it easier to straighten out the elastic so it does not twist in the waist.)
  12. Sew the opening closed (Fig. 6), and turn right side out.
  13. (Tip: To make shorts or capris, shorten the pant legs to desired length. To make bloomers, shorten to capri length, and add elastic approximately 3/4" away from the bottom edge to gather the opening. Add lace along the raw edge.)
