Hola Skull Card

Project #18155
18155

Here’s the perfect sugary sentiment to send to someone sweet! The Sugar Skull Die Set w/Stamps from the Sizzix Crafty Chica collection is a fun and festive way to say hello!

Other Supplies:

  • Cardstock (Black, Red, White)
  • Adhesive Foam Tape
  • Black Embossing Powder
  • Black Pigment Ink Pad
  • Gold Sequins
  • Heat Tool
  • Hook and Loop Closure
  • Liquid Adhesive
  • Water Brush
  • Watercolors

  1. Stamp with black ink the Sugar Skull image from the Sugar Skull set onto white cardstock. Dust with black embossing powder, and shake off the excess powder. Use a heat tool to set the embossed image. Repeat the same steps to create two more Sugar Skull images.
  2. Align the corresponding Framelits die over one Sugar Skull image, and die-cut. For ease of use, we recommend using the Magnetic Platform to hold the Framelits die in place while the shape is being cut.
  3. Using scissors, cut out the heart with flowers, teeth, heart nose and flower eyes out of the second Sugar Skull image. From the third stamped image, cut out just the center circles from the eyes.
  4. Using a water brush and watercolors, paint all the images.
  5. Adhere with adhesive foam tape all the cutout shapes on top of their corresponding images on the full Sugar Skull.
  6. Cut a 2 3/4" x 3 1/8" piece of black cardstock. Adhere the layered Sugar Skull to the black cardstock.
  7. Cut a 3" x 3 3/8" piece of red cardstock. Adhere the black cardstock to the red cardstock with liquid adhesive.
  8. Adhere gold sequins to the corners of the black cardstock with liquid adhesive. Set aside the layered red and black cardstock.
  9. Cut a 6" x 10 7/8" piece of red cardstock. Fold the red cardstock at 2 7/8" and again at 9 1/8" to create a three-panel fold-over card. Cut a 2 11/16" x 6" piece and a 1 11/16" x 6" piece of patterned paper (repeated skulls) from the My Happy Life Cardstock Pad.
  10. Adhere the two pieces of skull patterned paper to the two fold-over panels on the red card base. Adhere small gold sequins with liquid adhesive to the corners of the two patterned paper panels.
  11. Adhere with liquid adhesive the top of the layered red and black cardstock to the top fold-over panel on the left side, 1/2" from the left edge and 7/8" from top edge of the card.
  12. Adhere with liquid adhesive a piece of hook and loop closure to the bottom back side of the layered red and black cardstock. Adhere the other piece of hook and loop to the corresponding place on the left, top edge of the bottom fold-over panel of the red card base.
  13. Cut a 5 3/8" x 5 7/8" piece of striped cardstock from the My Happy Life Cardstock Pad. Cut a 5 1/2" x 6" piece of black cardstock. Layer and adhere the striped cardstock on top of the black cardstock with liquid adhesive. Adhere the layered striped and black cardstock to the large, inside center panel of the red card base with liquid adhesive.
  14. Stamp with black ink the Hola phrase from the Hola Flower set onto white cardstock. Dust with black embossing powder, and shake off the excess powder. Use a heat tool to set the embossed image.
  15. Align the corresponding Framelits die over the stamped image, and die-cut. For ease of use, we recommend using the Magnetic Platform to hold the Framelits die in place while the shape is being cut
  16. Die-cut the Hola shape again out of black cardstock. Slightly offset the black Hola behind the white stamped Hola, and adhere together with liquid adhesive. Adhere with adhesive foam tape the layered Hola phrase to the inside panel of the card base on the right between the two fold-over panels. The Hola phrase should peek out between the top and bottom fold-over panels when the card is closed with the hook and loop closure.
