Assembling the Project:

  1. Sew a pair of solid white and solid yellow 2 1/2" Half-Square Triangles, right sides together, along the diagonal seam to form a square block. Make 240 blocks.
  2. Take 80 of the HST sets and sew a solid white 2 1/2" Half-Square Triangle to the right side to make unit 1 (Diagram 1). Press toward the single solid white Half-Square Triangle.
  3. Take another 80 of the HST sets and sew a solid white 2 1/2" Half-Square Triangle to the right side and a solid yellow 2 1/2" Half-Square Triangle to the left side to make unit 2 (Diagram 2). Press outward from the center on both sides.
  4. Take the 80 HST sets and sew a solid yellow 2 1/2" Half-Square Triangle to the left side to make unit 3 (Diagram 3). Press toward the single solid yellow Half-Square Triangle.
  5. Sew unit 1 to unit 2 (Diagram 4).
  6. Sew unit 3 to unit 2 (Diagram 5).
  7. Sew the solid yellow 4 1/2" Half-Square Triangles to the block (Diagram 6). Press toward the center of the block.
  8. Sew the solid white 4 1/2" Half-Square Triangles to the block (Diagram 7). Press toward the solid white 4 1/2" Half-Square Triangles.
  9. Using the photo as a guide, lay out the blocks on a design wall or the floor. This will make it easier to keep track of piecing.
  10. Sew the blocks together into rows. Press the seams in alternate directions to reduce the bulk at the points.
  11. Sew the rows together until you have completed the quilt top. Again, press the seams in alternate directions.

Finishing:

  1. Layer the backing, batting and quilt top. Quilt by hand or machine as desired.
  2. Sew the binding Strips together to form one long Strip. Fold wrong sides together lengthwise, and press.
  3. With a 1/4" seam, sew the raw edges of the binding to the edges of the right side of the quilt. Turn the folded edge of the binding to the back side of the quilt and stitch in place by hand, mitering the corners.
