Cheery Cherries & Strawberries Quilt

Want a taste of something truly sweet? These cheery squares can be made using a charm pack for a variety of fabrics or for a planned look, use your favorite fabrics by the yard.



Fabric Requirements:

1 1/4 ydBright stripe printCut (25) 2 1/2" x 5" Rectangles for sashing
Cut (4) 2 1/2" wide Strips for border
Cut (5) 2 1/2" wide Strips for binding
1 1/4 ydBacking fabric

Notes:

  • Finished Size: 35 1/2" x 42 1/2"
  • All seam allowances are 1/4" unless noted.
  • Fat 1/4 = approximately 18" x 21"

Piecing the Quilt:

  1. Sew the first row, starting with the yellow cornerstone Square alternating with the pink Rectangle.
  2. Sew the second row, starting with the bright stripe Rectangle alternating with the cherry Square.
  3. Sew the third row, starting with the yellow cornerstone Square and alternating with the lime green Rectangle.
  4. Sew the fourth row, starting with the bright stripe Rectangle alternating with the cherry Square.
  5. Repeat steps 1 through 4 until all rows have been completed.
  6. Sew the rows together.
  7. Sew the 1 1/2" white border Strips to the sides of the quilt center first, then sew the top and bottom border Strips. Sew the 2 1/2" bright stripe border Strips to the quilt in the same manner.

Finishing:

  1. Layer the backing, batting and quilt top. Quilt by hand or machine, as desired.
  2. Sew binding strips together to form one long strip. Fold wrong sides together, lengthwise, and press.
  3. With a 1/4" seam, sew the raw edges of the binding to the edges of the right side of the quilt. Turn the folded edge of the binding to the back side of the quilt and stitch in place by hand, mitering the corners.
