Add Some Snowflake Goodness To Your Next Card Make

HI all!! Tami Mayberry from Create It Simply here with you today to share another quick and easy card that you can create this winter using your Sizzix dies.

As a Sizzix design team member, each month we get to pick three of the newest dies released on the Sizzix site to play with. This month one of our options was the Winter Wonderland line from Sharyn Sowell. As soon as I saw all the gorgeous snowflakes in this line I knew they were at the top of my list. When picking dies I try not only envision a project to share that will incorporate all three dies but I also try to pick dies that I can use over and over on a variety of personal projects. After drooling over the possibilities I finally settled on Thinlits Die - Snowflake Card, Framelits Die Set 5PK - Circles, Rounded Scallops and Bigz L Die - Snowflakes.  While I knew I could create the card I'm sharing today I also knew the Bigz Snowflakes die, with a circle design and two sizes of snowflakes that can be layered, would be perfect for all sorts of home decor, perfect for die-cutting fabric, felt and more. The scalloped circles? Always a versatile design to have on hand.

Looking at the photo on the front of the Snowflake Card I thought it might be a difficult design. Upon opening the package I found it was amazingly simple (a secret the recipient never has to know!)  The instructions on the package are shown below. Step-by-step instructions with measurements and photos--ya can't get much easier than that! :)

So I began by die-cutting my panels as shown on the package and used my die-brush to remove the tiny bits and pieces. This die, as well as the scalloped circles use the Big Shot Plus with a sandwich of the Magnetic Platform, a Standard Cutting Pad,  paper or cardstock, desired die (cutting side down), and, finally, the second Standard Cutting Pad.

For today's card, I decided to add some interest using a double-sided cardstock. I wanted the panels to be oriented in the same direction so I die-cut them as shown below, positioned just as they would be on the card front.

Next I attached the die-cut panels to the kraft card base as shown on the instructions with the navy side facing inward.

Then the panels were folded inward with the light blue side showing.

Now, I wanted to incorporate that Bigz Snowflakes die on the inside of the card. I die-cut all three shapes from white cardsotck using my Sizzix Big Shot Plus die-cutting machine and a sandwich of a Standard Cutting Pad, followed by the die (cutting side up), paper/cardstock and the second Cutting Pad. Once finished I reserved all three die-cut shapes and placed the largest snowflake in the card center.  I decided I wasn't thrilled with this layout as it detracted from the intricate front.

So. it was time for plan B. I cut a second kraft panel 1/4 inch wider than the base and scored the edge. I could then attach it to the base, as shown below, creating a card front.

Once closed I folded the left side over and adhered it to the newly added panel.

Now! I can add the large snowflake inside the card. Perfect fit!

The center circle of the Snowflakes die layered perfectly onto the Circles, Rounded Scallops. I stamped my sentiment, layered them together and it was ready to adhere inside the card.

To finish the card off I wrapped the closed card with a piece of velvet ribbon and adhered the ended overlapping to create a removable band that would not only embellish but also hold the card closed. I then attached the third die-cut snowflake and some self-adhesive rhinestones.

And there you have it!

Thanks for stopping by today and letting me share this fin and easy project. Be sure to stop by my blog as well to see what else I make using these versatile designs as the  winter season approaches.
