Get Easter Making With This Fabric Arts DIY

Happy Spring! Melanie from the Quilt Room here. Spring means new life and what doesn’t speak more to that then an egg?

To get started, here are the Sizzix products and fabrics that you will need:

We have so many great Spring shapes in our EShape Store it was hard to decide, I finally landed on the Happy Easter Egg from Megan Hardy Designs.

Using the 12 x 24 Mat layout in the software I was able to enlarge the image quite a bit, to 11.373 x 17.397, getting as big as I could because I didn’t want the scroll work to be too tiny. Truth be told, even I am not that crazy. After deciding which shape and size I wanted I grabbed 2/3 yard of my pink and white fabric and my Heat N’ Bond Ultra.

The scrolls were very delicate at certain points, so I made sure to use Heat N’ Bond Ultra. Once my fabric was prepped, I secured it face down to the cutting mat and loaded it into the machine.

I love watching the machine do the work for me. I giggled a bit to realize that I could achieve this beauty without having to do all that cutting by hand. I am not always the most patient person when it comes to seeing if I can actually achieve some of the designs in my head.

Peeled the paper off the back of the fabric, centered the Egg on my 19 x 23 rectangular white background fabric and ironed it down. Simple as that, all that was left to was to baste my quilt sandwich together.

Because I chose to use the Heat N’ Bond Ultra, I didn’t want to quilt on the cut pink fabric, but around it. This was a great place for me to expand my Free Motion Quilting abilities. I did quilt within the words of the Egg to help it pop off the background.

Almost there! Now it is time to attach the binding to your beauty, if you happen to have your Big Shot nearby and a 2 1/2” strip XL Die, you can use it to cut out your Binding strips. After that I choose to attach the binding to the backside of my project with my machine so that I could hang it sooner and take pleasure in the outcome quicker. I love that I made something that looks so complicated yet so quick and easy.

Happy Easter!
