Hello all! It is Anna-Karin here today on the blog, with a sweet pop-up birthday card, made with the new Lori Whitlock Sizzix collection of dies and stamps.
This is the inside of the card with a pop-up fairy tale castle, which is one of many cute dies in the Birthday Pop-Up Card set. The set contains 16 great dies and you can combine them to make a large number of different cards. Children love pop-up cards, but the dies in the set can be used for other types of projects too. I used Prima's Bedtime Story paper pad for my card.
The castle has great details and you can open the door and windows. I placed a black paper behind the door and windows and a pink one behind the heart. These are Thinlits dies, and work best together with the Sizzix Magnetic Platform. Use this sandwich: Magnetic Platform, Cutting Pad, paper, die facing down, second Cutting Pad.
The balloon die comes from the same set. I die cut the balloons from sections of the patterned paper. Two of them are floating above the castle. I attached them with a piece of wire, twisted in both ends and glued with hot glue, in between the pop-up mechanism and the castle.
You can see the pop-up mechanism and the balloons better here.
The Birthday Pop-Up Card set also contains a little pocket die. I die cut it from another piece of patterned paper and tucked a banner, stamped and die cut with the Happy Birthday set inside. It opens to reveal a little message. These types of interactive features are always popular with children. The gift was stamped and die cut with the same set. The girl was cut from the patterned paper and given a die cut wand.
Here you can see the banner mini card better. To make this, fold a strip of paper, stamp the banner, and die cut with the coordinating die, but place the top edge of the die above the folded line. That way, the die cuts three sides of the banner, but not the folded side.
The front of the card looks like this. I used double-sided paper for the main body of the card. A second piece of paper was used to cover up the pop-up mechanism on the front of the card. I only die cut the edge of the star paper using the card base from the Card, Birthday Pop-Up.
The balloons were made in the same way as on the inside of the card.
Since I used double-sided paper, the back of the card is pretty too.
Thank you for looking at this post and I hope it inspired you to make some pop-up cards!
