Thank you cards are in high demand around my house now that the rush of the holidays is over. Today I have a super cute thank you card idea and quick tutorial to share with you. How about a shaped card for something fun and a little bit different? Like this sweet fox-shaped card made with new dies from Lori Whitlock's Made with Love collection.
Isn't this fox die just adorable? This is Lori's new Fox #2 Bigz die. I think it screams for paper piecing, with all the separate little details and layers. And since it's a nice big size, it works well as a card base, too. So that's what we're going to do today.
To get started, gather cardstock and patterned papers you'd like to use. I chose kraft cardstock for the base, and a variety of patterned papers for the details. Now we're ready to die cut.
Since the Fox #2 is a Bigz die, all we'll need is a pair of Standard Cuttings Pads used in this basic Sizzix die cutting sandwich: Standard Cutting Pad, die (cutting side up), paper, Standard Cutting Pad.
Since we're doing some paper piecing, you'll need to die cut the fox shape several times to make sure you get all the different pieces to complete your fox. Die cut the entire shape two times from your card base paper, and then you can die cut partial pieces to get all the shapes you need. Trim out the detail pieces, as necessary.
Create a score line across the top of the head on one of the base shapes. Fold back and forth along the crease line several times to loosen the flap.
Place strong adhesive along that top flap, and then press the second base shape onto the first. The card will open along that score line.
Now adhere the detail pieces onto the fox, using the shape's score lines to guide placement. To help each layer stand out more, I edged each piece with brown ink.
For the sentiment tag, die cut the long tag shape from Lori's Birthday Sentiments Framelits w/Stamps die set from contrasting patterned paper. When die cutting with Framelits or Thinlits dies, we recommend using the Magnetic Cutting Platform and this die cutting sandwich: Magnetic Cutting Platform, Standard Cutting Pad, paper, die (cutting side down), Standard Cutting Pad.
Die cut the thank you sentiment from Lori's Arrows, Frames, Key & NotebookPaper Thinlits die set from black patterned paper. To help remove the delicate die cuts, try rolling over the backside of the dies with the Die Brush and Foam Pad. Works like a charm.
Adhere part of the sentiment onto the tag, and tie the tag around the fox's neck with twine.
And finally, adhere the last part of the sentiment inside the card for a fun little surprise.
