Holiday Table Runner: A Festive and Fun Home Décor DIY

Holiday Table Runner: A Festive and Fun Home Décor DIY

Hi and Happy Holidays! It's Karin here today with a tutorial on how to make this festive table runner using the new Bigz Plus Flower Wheel die with the Big Shot Pro.

The flower wheel takes on the guise of a snowflake. At 14 x 37" it's a great size for a sideboard.

First cut two pieces of background fabric, 15 x 38". I used Essex Linen in Red by Robert Kaufman. Then fuse 1/2 yard of accent fabric to Pellon® 805 Wonder-Under; shown is Mirror Ball Dot which has a little bit of shimmer. Time to make the Sizzix sandwich: cutting pad, die with blades facing up, fabric (prefused) and top cutting pad — and roll it through the machine. You will need to die cut six flower wheels.

Three of the flower wheels will be left in tact, two will be cut in half and one will be quartered as shown above.

Peel off the paper backing and arrange the shapes on the fabric. I laid the fabric out right on the ironing board so I would't have to try and transfer it all to be fused. Once you're happy that things are spaced well and lined up nicely, fuse the flower wheels to the fabric.

Time to appliqué! I use a blanket stitch - #45 on my Janome Memory Craft 7700 QCP. It takes a while but I quickly get into a rhythm; it's worth it!

The back is sort of pretty, too. Right sides together, pin the top to the back and with a 1/2" seam allowance, sew around the perimeter, leaving a 4" gap that your hand will fit in so you can turn it right side out. After turning it right side out, carefully poke out the corners and press all the seams flat. Take special care to fold in and press the opening as this is how it will be when it's finished. With a 1/4" foot, topstitch around the entire table runner and press to set the seams. All done!

I love a classic red and white Christmas theme — perhaps it's my Scandinavian roots.
