Hi everyone, Mou here with today’s Sizzix inspiration!
I like to celebrate the achievements of loved ones by giving handmade cards. I made this card for my daughter who made it into the dance group for the City of Tampa. That made me very proud as it was only last year that I sorta dragged her to join a class just so she could overcome her shyness a little bit. Neither of us saw that it would become something she'd enjoy so much, let alone achieve a position in a prestigious show group! Here's how I made this card.
Cut cardstock to 5.5″ x 8.5″ to make a card measuring 5.5″ x 4.25″. Cut patterned paper to 5.5" x 4.25" and attach to the card front.
Choose a few patterned papers that would create a contrast with the background. Lay a Standard Cutting Pad on the Magnetic Platform. Place the shield, pinked circle, big star, leaf and banner dies from the Awards die set blade side up on the Standard Cutting Pad and patterned papers face down on the die and cover with the other Standard Cutting Pad. Pass the whole sandwich through the Sizzix Big Shot Machine to die cut the pieces. The Magnetic Platform holds the dies in place allowing you to cut multiple pieces neatly in just one pass. To cut another leaf, create the same sandwich but with the patterned paper facing up, so the leaf design you get would be a mirror image of the first one. Repeat the same steps to die cut a couple of borders from the Toppers, Borders, & Corners set and the small label from the Numbers & Frames set from cardstock.
Lay the banner piece from Awards set and small label from the Numbers & Frames set on the smooth side of the Stamper's Secret Weapon. Mount 'Congrats' stamp from the Awards set to acrylic block and ink it up with black ink and stamp on the banner piece. Repeat with 'You're No. 1' stamp, also from the Awards set, and red ink on the smaller label. The Stamper's Secret Weapon provides extra cushioning for the acrylic stamps to create a clear impression on the stamping surface.
Ink the die cut pieces with ink blending tool and Distress ink pad.
Attach the borders at the top and bottom of the card. open the card up and lay it on the rougher side of the Stamper's Secret Weapon which doubles as a paper piercing mat. With paper piercer that comes with the Stamper's Secret Weapon, poke holes through the card following the die cut border design. Thread your needle and straight stitch through the holes to add some extra detail to your card.
Now, it's time to assemble the die cut pieces using pop dots. Attach the shield on the top half of the card. Layer the pinked circle on top of the shield. Tuck the two mirror image leaves under the pinked circle on the sides. Attach the star in the center of the pinked circle.
Attach the sentiment stamped on the banner below the shield. Attach the stamped smaller label in the inside flap to finish.
Here's a close-up of the card.
I hope you enjoyed today's Sizzix inspiration and would give the new Brenda Walton dies for Sizzix a try in your creations.
