Hello everyone, Aida here and I am back with a Halloween Sizzix Inspiration décor panel. Halloween is not a huge event in Singapore though it is gaining popularity as an occasion to have fun parties. I must say I love the Halloween projects on Pinterest and this project was so much fun for me.
This panel is 8x8 inches and it's a good size to hang on the wall or use as a table decor. The main inner panel is 5.5 x 5.5 inches and is made by wrapping patterned paper on a chipboard sheet. Using any stencil you might have (I used the Tim Holtz Bubble stencil), spread Texture Paste on the corners. Next I misted with Distress Spray Tarnished Brass and let it drip slightly before using a heating tool to dry the paint. The spray gives excellent coverage and you can see how the brass colored splatters added such an interesting look to the black paper surface. Next I used the Seedless Preserves spray, let it dry slightly and used a paper towel to blot off parts of it to make sure the Brass color below showed through.
Die cut the largest star in the Stars Bigz die by sandwiching it with the material you're cutting between a pair of Standard Cutting Pads and rolling it through your Big Shot or BIGkick machine. Then brush it with Ranger's Matte Medium, the pour Distress Glitter Mustard Seed over it and gently pat down to make sure the glitter adheres well. I love this glitter as it has a vintage feel, not quite a shinny as ones you usually see and you can ink it to create dimension. When creating a project, I always think in layers and you can see how I used the Movers and Shapers Ornamental die cut as a base to layer the star and stamped cat image. The Ornamental die cut was cut the same way as the Stars Bigz die mentioned above and painted with Distress Crackle paint in Frayed Burlap.
Shadow Press Debossing folders are a favorite of mine and this Alterations Shadow Press Halloween was wonderful for the project. To use these all you need to do is open your Multipurpose Platform to Tab 1 and lay down one cutting pad. Place your Shadow Press folder closed with the material you're embossing inside on top and then your second cutting pad to top it all off. You'll run this sandwich through your Big Shot or BIGkick machine.
I selected a Kraft card stock and debossed the word Halloween. Next I swiped Distress Paint in Black Soot over the word taking care not to get any paint in the recessed areas. To help make the word pop even more, I took a Gold Sharpie and filled in the debossed parts and then trimmed the word to size. I wanted the word to be shinny to contrast with other matte surfaces and to get this effect, I squeezed a large blob of Glossy Accent on the debossed word and used my finger to spread it around. When this dried, it was completely glossy.
I hope you enjoyed this project and are able to use the ideas to make one for your own. Happy Halloween crafting!!
