Sizzix Quilting Tutorial | On-Point Triangle Pillow by Karin Jordan

Hello! It's Karin here today with a Sizzix quilting tutorial on how to make a 20" on-point triangle pillow using the Bigz XL die - Half-Square Triangles - 2½" Finished Square.

Coral and white is a nice change from this scrappy Christmas pillow that was still in my dining room.

Although the Bigz XL die works with the fabi, I like to use my Big Shot Pro because the extra fabric can be folded up next to the die on the sliding tray. Make the Sizzix sandwich — sliding tray, cutting pad, die with blades facing up, fabric and cutting pad. (Note: top cutting pad is not pictured so you can see how easy it is to roll the extra fabric through.)

Die cut 105 Kona White triangles and 105 Kona Coral triangles.

Lay them out in 14 rows of 15 across, as shown above.

With a 1/4" seam allowance, sew all the pairs of triangles together. Chain piecing makes this go fast! Press the seams open.

Starting in one corner, sew diagonal rows together. I started by sewing the bottom left triangle to the coral and white square in the center of this photo.

Continue sewing diagonal rows together, pressing seams open. Sew rows together into pairs and then sew the pairs together until the pillow top is complete.

Trim the right and left sides of the top so that the top is square.

If only they were always this perfect.

Fuse the top to a piece of Pellon® Fusible Fleece that is slightly larger. Quilt as desired; I kept it simple.

Cut a 20½" square of fabric for the back. This is Kitty Dreams in Cranberry by Lizzy House for Andover Fabrics. I used a strip of wide masking tape to achieve straight lines for a wide crosshatch quilting pattern. For an easy tutorial on how to finish this pillow with a zipper, please click here.

It's a lot more summery than the old Christmas pillow. It is April after all. .

My kids like the Catnap side better, so there's a war on — they keep flipping it to the back. :)

It is stunning, but I am like your kids, I love the back side. That Kitty Dreams fabric is so fun.
