Hi! It's Karin here today with a tutorial for a simple and fun 15 ½ x 35" spring table runner.
Using the Bigz L die Rectangle 2 ½ x 5" (finished) and your background fabric, make the Sizzix sandwich with the fabi— standard cutting pad, die with blades facing up, fabric and standard cutting pad. Die cut 42 3" x 5 ½" rectangles. The blue solid I used is Kona in Breakers.
With the other fabric and a set of extended cutting pads, die cut ten triangles with the Bigz XL die Half-Square Triangles, 2 ½" Finished Square. Or die cut as many as you need for your layout! Arrange your rectangles in three rows of 14 each and decide where you would like to add the triangles.
Right sides facing, line a triangle up on top of the rectangle as shown and sew with a ¼" seam allowance. This black and white fabric is Windswept in Onyx from the Rapture collection by Art Gallery Fabrics.
Using the edge of the top fabric as a guide, trim off the excess. Press the seams open.
Ta da! A rectangle with a fun corner. Repeat for all the other triangles.
I made one set of triangles a different print to match the back — it's Irome Squares in Summer by Kokka, but possibilities are endless. Sew the top row together and press seams to the left. Sew the second row together and press seams to the right. Repeat for all remaining rows, continuing to alternate pressing to the left and right. Once all the rows are together, sew one to row two, row three to row four and so on. Continue piecing until the top is complete.
Matchstick quilting goes quickly and I like the finished look.
Cut 100" of 2 ¼" binding. The fabic pictured is Kona in Chartreuse. Sew the binding on and you have a new splash of color for your table.
Thanks for stopping by, and happy spring!
