Sizzix Tutorial | Chalkboard Decor by Aida Haron

Hello everyone, Aida here for today's SIzzix Tutorial with an easy chalkboard decor you can use for any occasion. This project is very versatile, fast to make and you can use Thinlits dies you have or customise your design with any die-cut in white cardstock. The colors where kept very simple to accentuate the chalkboard feel.

I've used Thinlits Phrases You Are My Happy by Jen Long.

The Magnetic Platform is an essential tool with Thinlits as it makes the die-cutting so much easier when the die does not slide about.

When using the Magnetic Platform as a base, you need the standard Cutting Pads. Sandwich the Thinlits and the white cardstock (on top of the cutting side of the thinlits) between two standard Cutting Pads. Run through the Big Shot.

This is how it looks. Peel off the pieces inside the design carefully so as not to tear off any parts of the letters.

The size of the canvas I've used is 7.5 inches in height and 6.5 inches on the top. Black Gesso was painted on and when that dried completely, I mixed Distress Paint Tumbled Glass with a little water and lightly went over the canvas with a brush. I wanted to create the effect of a used chalkboard that still had faint chalk markings on it.

Next using a fine tip adhesive like Glossy Accent, glue the die cut in the center of the canvas.

Lightly color the die cut with watered down Distress Spray in Tumbled Glass using a water brush.

To add more details on the chalkboard, I  drew with a broad White pigment ink Signo Rollerball pen.

The Fancy Base with Layering Shapes by Jen Long contains an amazing 22 pieces and they add really pretty details to your projects !

These were the shapes I die cut in white card stock and for the butterfly an additional piece in grey card stock for the shadow.

You can see how the butterfly was layered here and Silver Stickles was daubed in the center for sparkle. The curved square die cut was matted with a grey card stock to polish up the details.
