Hello, hello! Anna Wight here with a Sizzix Tutorial for you. I have a feeling most of you are in full swing of holiday decorating. Why not add a little country to your Christmas with this quick and easy homespun ornament! Let me show you just how easy it is to make these beauties!
Start by die cutting various leaves and flowers out of wool felt using Thinlits dies from the Susan's Garden series. The shapes you choose don't necessarily have to be traditional holiday shapes (like holly and poinsettias). Greenery and flower shapes of all kinds take on a seasonal look when used on ornaments. I chose the greenery from the White Pine Pinecones Thinlits set, and the centers from the Cosmos and Carnation Thinlits sets.
Die cutting wool felt is easy to do with Thinlits! Sandwich your felt and the Thinlit dies between a pair of Standard Cutting Pads and the Magnetic Platform and put it through your Sizzix Big Shot machine. Wool felt cuts beautifully!
Next, rip several strips of homespun fabric about 1" wide. The ragged edges created when you tear fabric add to the homespun charm of these ornaments. Gather up some inexpensive plastic ornaments to use as the foundation of your homespun ornament. You can pick up sets at your favorite discount stores, or you may even have some in your ornament collection you're willing to alter!
I like to pop the plastic tops off of the ornaments before I start covering them with the fabric strips. They remove very easily, with just a twist and pull.
Using white craft glue or hot glue, adhere strips of fabric around the ornament. You may only have to add adhesive the the ends of the fabric, or you may need to add a smidgen of adhesive to the fabric as you wrap, depending on if your ornament is too slippery for the fabric to stay in place on its own.
Continue wrapping fabric strips around the ornament until the entire shape is covered.
Adhere the plastic top back in place.
Adhere twine around the plastic top and create a hanging string at the very top.
Embellish your ornament with the die cut greenery and flower shapes you cut from wool felt. Further embellish with buttons, twine, pip berries, bells, or other embellishments of your choice.
Homespun ornaments are easy to make, and add a wonderful country charm to any tree!
Thanks so much for joining me today! I hope you found my tutorial inspiring!
