Sizzix Tutorial | Springtime Flower Boxes by Melissa Fallon

Hey everyone! Melissa here for today’s Sizzix Tutorial.  There's still snow in the forecast here in the Midwest, but that doesn't stop me from having spring fever. I don't know why, but this year more than ever, I'm just itching to open these windows and let all the fresh air inside. It's time for flower season in my book, which means that the spring projects have begun! So today, I'm going to show you how to make these flower treat boxes using a few different Sizzix dies!

For this project, you will need the Sizzix Bigz Hexagon Box Die from Where Women Cook, the Stephanie Barnard Textured Impressions Flower Embossing Folder, and the Sizzix Bigz Flower Die by Stephanie Ackerman.

To begin, I started by making the hexagon boxes. To create the sandwich, I layered an Extended Cutting Pad, the Bigz Hexagon Box Die, the paper, and then the Extended Crease Pad on top.

And this is what I got! I repeated these steps once more so that I had a top & bottom to the box.

I folded the edges of both templates (top & bottom) according to the crease lines to allow the sides to fold easier after using the embossing folder.

I then slipped the flat box templates into the Sizzix Flower Embossing Folder to give them some texture. Not all of the edges fit inside the folder, but this was okay with me because those edges aren't going to be shown much when the box is put together. When using embossing folders in the Sizzix Big Shot machine, open up your Multipurpose Platform to tab 1 and lay down one Standard Cutting Pad. Lay your material inside of the embossing folder and close it. Place this on top of the first cutting pad and then place a second Standard Cutting Pad on top. Roll this sandwich through your Big Shot.

After using the embossing folder, I then used crafter's tape to adhere the side tabs together.

Once both sides were assembled, I put them together and they fit like a glove. Each piece will have tabs so that they fit together.

Once the boxes were assembled, I then moved on to creating the flower topper! To create the sandwich, I layered a Cutting Pad, the Sizzix Bigz Flower Die, the paper, and then another Cutting Pad on top.

I repeated that step with all three colors of paper (pink, white, and green) to get the flower shape, as well as the inner circle and leaves.

I then attached a green straw to the bottom of each box, as well as the green leaves that I had just cut out with the Sizzix Bigz Flower Die.

To finish things off, I added a gumball to the top of each one with food safe glue and filled them up with sweet treats! And that's it! A simple flower box tutorial for all your spring party favors!
