Sizzix Tutorial | That's Life Panel by Aida Haron

Hello everyone ! It's Aida back again for a Sizzix Tutorial with a That's Life canvas panel. The idea for this project came about after seeing the new Idea-ology travel themed Paper Stash Correspondence with it's interesting tones of Blues and tints of Red. Measuring 6 inches at the top and 8 inches in height, this panel's design could easily be adapted to a card or a mini book cover. As a crafter I find it easier to design pretty, elegant, feminine pieces but to create a design suitable for a guy, well, it needs a little more work. This panel has a neutral, shabby feel and with Valentine's Day coming up, this might just work as a gift for a guy!

Here are the close ups and you'll have to agree the Mixed Media Sizzix Thinlits with designs by Tim Holtz are so perfect for this project !! There are 3 varieties in the pack and today I've chosen the Honeycomb design to create a mesh for a vintage Frame using the Movers and Shapers Postage Stamp Frame and the Movers and Shapers Sized Rectangles. It amazed me to see how fine the honeycomb was after die-cutting.

The Moth from the Bigz Easter Elements is surely an evergreen design you can use anytime and here it's been embossed, then color added with Distress inks and paints.

If you are ready, let's begin !

Trim a white cardstock 6 x 7 inches. I wanted the Honeycomb from the Mixed Media Sizzix Thinlits to cover a larger area than the Thinlits design and you can achieve this by die-cutting twice. It's important to use the Magnetic Platform to ensure the Thinlits does not move while rolling through the Big Shot.

You can see how the sandwich looks from here. Starting from the bottom: the Magnetic Platform, Standard Cutting Pad, white Bazill cardstock, Thinlits die facing down and lastly the Standard Cutting Pad. Roll the sandwich through your Big Shot.

After the first pass though the Big Shot, remove all the honeycomb centers. Align the Thinlits at the lower end of the die-cut as shown in the photo. Once again using the Magnetic Platform, sandwich in the same method explained above, roll through the Big Shot.

Below you can see how the larger double cut design looks like.

I painted the die-cut with Distress Paint Stormy Sky and added Distress Ink Rusty Hinge.

To create the frame for the Honeycomb mesh, I used the Little Sizzles mat board. These are light weight, strong and have a core the same color as the surface.

Insert the largest of the Sized Rectangle into the center of the Postage Stamp Frame.

The Postage Stamp Frame is a Bigz die which does not require a base tray. With the Sized Rectangles in place, create the sandwich this way from the bottom: Standard Cutting Pad, the Postage Stamp Frame with the largest Sized Rectangle in the center facing up, the mat board and finally the Standard Cutting Pad. Roll this through the Big Shot.

Next I trimmed the Honeycomb die cut to fit the Frame.

Paint the Frame with Distress Paint Chipped Sapphire, a little Barn Door and when dry, paint on Distress Crackle Paint. Leave aside to dry completely for cracks to form.

Die cut a Moth with the Bigz Easter Elements, and emboss with the Texture Fades Ruler.

To emboss you will need the Extended Multipurpose Platform on Tab 2. Create the sandwich this way starting from the bottom: a Standard Cutting Pad, the Ruler Texture Fades with the die-cut Moth inside and a Standard Cutting Pad on the top.  Place this sandwich on top of the Multi Purpose Platform on Tab 2 and roll through the Big Shot. Color the Moth with Distress Paint and Ink to highlight the Ruler design.  There's a useful Sizzix video you might like to watch here : Textured Impressions.

Color wash a 6 x 8 inches canvas with Distress Stormy Sky and splatter with Wild Honey.

Rub in a little Distress Paint Iced Spruce into the cracks of the Frame. Glue the Honeycomb mesh behind the Frame, then a small piece of patterned paper, layer Idea-ology metal embellishments and lastly add a title using Alpha Parts.
