Sizzix Tutorial | Valentine Box by Aida Haron

Hello scrappers, it's Aida here and I'm back with a Sizzix Tutorial. Today I have a cute Valentine's Day project using Eileen Hull's Box, Recipe Card Sizzix Scoreboards XL die and the Alterations Movers and Shapers Magnetic Heart Sizzix Die. I love how large dies designed by Eileen Hull can be used as foundation pieces on projects you can extend creatively in many ways. This box makes an ideal gift for Valentine's Day once it's filled with love notes and candy or even a mini book made using Project Life cards.

You might notice I use quite a bit of American Craft's Glitter Card stock for die cutting as they make instant sparkly embellishments. They come in tons of colors and will match anything you make.

I've cut out this message to put inside the box.

These are the dies I used.

Doodlebug's paper collection Lovebugs is adorable and I could not resist using them for this project!

One of the best products to use with scoreboard dies are the Little Sizzles Mat Board which are lightweight, they cut and score beautifully.

When using Scoreboard dies, layer one Extended Cutting Pad, your die with the foam side up, your Mat Board and then the Extended Crease Pad and pass through your Sizzix Big Shot.

The score lines are very clear.

Fold the box at the score lines and glue the side flaps. In case you need help, downloadable PDF assembly instructions are *HERE*

I painted the edges of the box with Distress Paint Spun Sugar.

Next I die-cut the patterned paper the same way as the mat board. When die cutting paper using the Premium Crease Pad, you may need to add a shim under your die to ensure the score lines are visible.

Using the score lines as a guide, trim the patterned paper.

Adhere to the Box, Recipe Card.

Next I die cut a heart using the Movers and Shapers Magnetic Heart Sizzix Die together with the Base Tray. Using the Standard Cutting Pads, create a sandwich with the Base Tray, Magnetic die facing up and the Glitter Card stock, then roll them through the Big Shot.

I glued a button behind the heart to make space for tucking close the Box flap.

Add a contrasting patterned paper round the middle of the box and embellish with the Glitter heart die-cut, a button, gold foil accents and a brad from My Mind's Eye.

This was a project I had so much fun making and one, I am sure, a special person would love to receive. Fill it with a small book containing photos of great moments or with chocolates and a personal note.

I'll see you again soon, happy crafting!

I love the project but I have a question. I am confused regarding the addition of a "pair" of extended cutting pads to prevent the score lines from cutting through the material being used. I am having difficulty "seeing" this in the picture provided in the tutorial. I thought the purpose of the crease pad was to prevent score lines from cutting through the paper. Could you please restate, in words, the exact sandwich to which you are referring? I would appreciate it very much. Thanks.

Janet, thank you for coming by. There's a slight mistake with the post that needs amendment.

For the mat board I used the Crease Pad AND an Extended Cutting pad in the sandwich as you can see in the photo. It cut and scored the mat board just fine for me though that could be differences in the cutting result for other Big Shots. If this is a problem, the option would be to use both Extended cutting pads with the mat board. For paper, I used the Crease Pad and and Extended Cutting Pad.

I hope this helps, much thanks, Aida
