Well hello there! I'm Amanda from Jedi Craft Girl and I am super duper excited to be here on the Sizzix Blog today! I am obsessed with all things Nautical, are you? I am a California girl and I LOVE the ocean! This Fish Bubbles pillow is the perfect way to add a little nautical charm to your home. Let's get started!!
Begin by getting all your supplies together and giggling because you are so excited about this fun project :)
Iron Heat n Bond Lite to the wrong side of each charm square.
Run the fused charm squares through the Fabi using the 1" circle die. I cut 2 charm squares at a time.
Isn't it awesome that you can cut this many circles in a matter of seconds! And they are perfectly round! Not like when I cut them by hand!!
Choose the color you want for your fish and run it through the Fabi as well.
Cut (2) 20" squares of the natural linen fabric. Using one square for the pillow front, fold it in quarters and finger press to mark a "grid" on the fabric. This will help keep things even.
Peel off the backing papers of each of the applique pieces. Place the pieces as pictured above. It takes a few minutes to get it just right. Once you are happy with the design, heat set it in place.
Put on your favorite music and get ready to sew around some circles! I used navy blue thread and sewed around each applique piece 2 times. To keep things moving along, I didn't cut the thread each time I moved to a new circle. I cut all the threads after I sewed them all.
I like how it looks when both seams don't line up exactly - kind of sketchy.
Once it is all appliqued, stand back and admire all your work - you're almost done!
To finish the pillow, cut a 3" strip off of the remaining 20" square. This is where the zipper will go. (If zippers make you run for the hills, you can finish this pillow using your favorite method. This just happens to be my favorite way to finish a pillow!)
Cut the accent strip 4" x 20" and press it in half lengthwise. This will cover the zipper.
Sew the zipper adding the raw edges of the flap in the top portion. Trim off the excess zipper. Now you can treat this as one piece.
Baste the navy trim all the way around the pillow front, curving at the corners.
Making sure the zipper is partially open, pin the pillow front to the pillow back. Sew a generous 1/4" to 1/2" seam (depending on your trim) all the way around the pillow. Cut the excess off each corner. Turn right side out and insert pillow!
The back is even cute!!!
Fish pillow, will you marry me?….HeeHee :)
