Sizzix Inspiration | Spool of Thread Journal by Anna Wight

Hello, hello! Anna Wight here with a bit of  Sizzix Inspiration for you! Today I’m sharing a quilting themed mini journal I made using various Sizzix Bigz dies including: Jillibean Soup™ Spool of Thread Card, Tim Holtz® Alterations Sewing Room, Life Made Simple Basics, and Prima Floressa.

I used the Spool of Thread Card die to create the front and back covers of my journal. I die cut medium weight chipboard which I had covered with designer paper. Instead of using the die to create a folded card, I used a cutting blade to separate the two sides of the die cut on the score line to create two individual cover pieces. I added some faux stitching to the edges with my tracing wheel, and inked the edges using Distress Ink.

The cover of the journal is embellished with all kinds of beautiful, make-you-happy goodies. I used the Floressa flower die to create a layered wool felt and lace flower with a mother of pearl button center. Floressa is such a great die for creating wonderful handmade flowers! The five flowers are perfect for layering and have the cutest shaped petals!

I used the Sewing Room die to create a cute little chipboard spool, which I wrapped with crochet thread. I tucked in a small sewing needle for a little extra added detail. I added a pretty silver sewing machine charm, a pretty lace bow, rusty heart, and several other small embellishments to up the "cute" factor.

I created a chunky charm to embellish the side of the journal. I used lots of small silver, brass, and enameled charms from my stash, as well as a few cute small wooden spool charms I created.

The pages of the journal are a fun mix of small pockets, ledger, and lined paper for making notes and project lists.

I used the Floressa die to create a few paper flowers to embellish some of the pages.

I used the 3x4 inch rectangle with rounded corners from the Life Made Simple Basics set to create pages that fit nicely into the journal. Some of the pages are embellished with Washi tape, faux stitching, and even pockets for added storage!

Here is another Floressa flower, used to embellish a fold-out pocket page. The smallest layering flower was just the perfect size for my journal!

This journal was a really fun project to create! And even though the Spool of Thread die is designed to make a crease in your card, I hope my journal inspires you to look for new and exciting ways to use your dies! I had a blast making this journal and embellishing it with some of the best goodies I've kept in my stash for just the right project.

In addition to snapping photos for you, I also made a quick video where I share the products used, as well as a flip-through of the journal. If you'd like to see the journal in more detail, please enjoy this video!

Thanks so much for joining me today!
