Hello there, Sizzix fans, Mou here from My Life in Collage blog! Today, I have a tutorial for making sweet and simple everyday greeting cards using Stephanie Barnard's flip-its and step-ups Framelits dies. You'll see just how easy it is to create these cards in no time at all and let's face it, we could all use more birthday and thank you cards. But that's not it, you could use these dies for special occasions too as I'll show you. So, let's get started!
These are the dies I am using today - Sizzix Framelits Plus Die Set 20PK - Card, Square Flip-its, Sizzix Framelits Plus Die Set 17PK - Card, Circle Flip-its and Sizzix Framelits Die Set 15PK - Card, Cute as a Bug Step-Ups.
You'll need the Big Shot Plus or Pro machine to use with the Sizzix Framelits Plus Die Set 20PK - Card, Square Flip-its and Sizzix Framelits Plus Die Set 17PK - Card, Circle Flip-its. Be sure to watch Stephanie Barnard demonstrate how to use the Big Shot Plus machine here. It comes with 1 Platform, 1 Adapter A, 1 Adapter B and 1 Pair of Cutting Pads and you can also buy replacements for these Sizzix Accessories.
You can use any of these machines or even a Big Shot machine with the Sizzix Framelits Die Set 15PK - Card, Cute as a Bug Step-Ups.
Each die set comes with a card base, layers and a variety of embellishments to choose from. Here, you can see the pieces I used with Sizzix Framelits Plus Die Set 20PK - Card, Square Flip-its.
Here's the die-cut card base.
To die-cut it, you'll need to create the following Sizzix Sandwich: on a Sizzix Big Shot Plus Accessory - Platform, Standard, lay the Sizzix Big Shot Plus Accessory - Adapter A, Standard (this is the right adapter for Framelits dies as the cheat sheet printed on the adapter will tell you). Now, lay a Sizzix Big Shot Plus Accessory - Cutting Pads, Standard on Adapter A. Place your paper on it and lay the dies blade side down on it. Cover with the other Sizzix Big Shot Plus Accessory - Cutting Pads, Standard and run the whole sandwich through the Big Shot Plus machine. This video will show you what I'm talking about.
Once the base is die-cut, fold along the crease lines to make the card.
TIP: Remember that with flip-its dies, the narrower side always goes to the left. 'Little Left' as Stephanie Barnard calls it!
Add any personal touches to your card as you like. Here, I used watercolors to add details to the die-cut flowers and leaves. And your card is ready to send!
Next up, is the birthday card using Sizzix Framelits Plus Die Set 17PK - Card, Circle Flip-its.
Create the exact same Sizzix Sandwich as above to diecut the card, layers and embellishments.
Be sure to decorate the inner surface of the Flip-it circle.
Now, we work with the Sizzix Framelits Die Set 15PK - Card, Cute as a Bug Step-Ups for new baby card. Mine says Congratulations, but you can easily use these as birth announcements, baby gift thanks and more.
Again, this is a regular size die that will work with the Big Shot machine as well as Big Shot Plus or Pro.
To diecut the card base, layers and embellishments, create the following Sizzix Sandwich: on a Sizzix Accessory Standard Magnetic Platform for Wafer-Thin Dies, lay another Sizzix Accessory Standard Cutting Pad. Lay the paper and your selected dies from the Sizzix Framelits Die Set 15PK - Card, Cute as a Bug Step-Ups. Cover with the other Standard Cutting Pad and pass the whole sandwich through the Sizzix Big Shot machine.
Get creative and add your personal touches! I painted my embellishments with watercolors.
Here's my finished card.
I hope you enjoyed today's card tutorial and will try these dies yourself to make beautiful cards in a jiffy!
