Everybody is using planners these days - the craze is HUGE! With some planners weighing upwards of 10 pounds, I haven't totally jumped on board with the planner trend since I don't like my purse to be very heavy. When I saw the NEW Stitchlits by Eileen Hull, including the Sizzix ScoreBoards Die - Needle Book, I knew it would make the perfect mini planner, great for slipping into my purse or the car's glovebox!
I used the Needle Book die to create the book cover and then embellished it with flowers cut with the Flower & Leaf Stitchlits, also by Eileen Hull. I inked the edges of all the die cuts with ColorBox Chalk Ink in coordinating colors to give just a touch of added dimension. The Needle Book die also cuts a tab for adding a snap closure to the book but I skipped that step, using a ribbon wrapped around the book as the closure method.
The Needle Book die doesn't cut the inner pages but they are easy enough to cut from cardstock. I cut these pages to 4" x 3.25" and then folded them in half to 2" x 3.25". Then I punched holes at the fold in each page and stitched them into the book using embroidery floss.
Since my daughter is a new driver, I decided to make this handy little planner for her along with a DIY air freshener created with the Embroidery Hoop die, scented with essential oils. Together, these two items make a cute gift set for a new driver! You can also use the scented embroidery hoop on a card, as a gift tag, or as a sachet in a dresser drawer.
I chose a felt made from recycled plastic bottles that is mold resistant since the essential oils will be added to the fibers of felt. Do not use wool felt for this project as it may have a strange odor when the oils are added.
I love the cute little diecut flowers created with the Sizzix Thinlits Die Set 10PK - Flower & Leaf Stitchlits so so much! There are so many options for decorating them: wrap them with twine or embroidery floss, stitch the the holes, layer them, put brads or gems through the holes... they're so cute! I think the textured cardstock really gives the flowers added dimension and interest as the focal point on both the air freshener and the mini planner.
I hope you enjoyed this project. For more projects like this, visit my blog at Just JP.
